Phase I Groundwork Everything begins with research and planning. Phase II Development Brainstorming brings our best ideas to the top, and the worst get kicked aside. Phase III Creation With a plan in mind, the actual creation begins. Phase IV Building Once created, ideas are built and implemented. Phase V Maintenance We rack the success of the final project and document its affect on the bottom line. Groundwork The first phase of our process is the most important because this is when we undertake the steps necessary to learn everything there is to know about our client, their business, their customers, culture and brand. This is also the phase where we identify their needs, learn about their hopes and set a plan to fulfill their desires. From this we're able to create a detailed schedule, build a team, and establish a communication channel so we can kick off the project and move into the next phase. Development With the goals in place, the team set and the schedule defined, the next step is to actually get to work. During this phase, we examine and assess content and begin to map out our structure and architecture. These are essential as they provide us with our first sense of what the final project will actually look, feel and function like. During development we complete the basic framework of the project: auditing, organizing, sitemapping and wireframing. Creation The third phase is where our creativity flourishes. We experiment with visuals, colors, and languages until we have nowhere else to turn. Then we take a look at everything and start to eliminate. We narrow our ideas and concepts to a few options. We present these to our client and agree upon a solution. The creation phase covers conceptualization, presentation, and development of a style guide of fonts, colors and visuals to show clients. From there all final decisions are made. Building With the initial creative agreed upon and the design parameters set, now we bring all the pieces together to construct the final product. In the building phase, we construct the various aspects of the project, integrate them together and set about testing everything before launch. Building is both difficult and rewarding because as with any other construction process, it is labor-intensive and takes time. However, when completed there is truly nothing better than seeing the fruits of our hard work. Maintenance For us, the launch is the exciting culmination of a challenging, yet rewarding, process. It is when everyone's hard work pays off. The launch isn't the end. This is when maintenance begins. It's perhaps even more important than the previous steps. Maintenance is necessary to keep content relevant, functionality optimized and graphics fresh. With maintenance comes measurement, where we track the project's success and its impact on the bottom line.

Information Architecture Understanding your websites content and organizational structure is a key component to providing a successful user experience. We'll help you establish a solid information architecture based on your preferences and build a navigation hierarchy to suit your customer needs.

User Interface Simply put, your website or e-commerce storefront is an interactive brochure or catalog. Unlike printed collateral which is sequential by nature, online interactions must be intuitive and straight-forward. The challenge is to create a beautiful design that accomplishes your goals and differentiates your brand from your competitors.

User Experience The right user experience is about balancing the user interface, with years of usability experience, current web standards, business sense and most important, keeping your customers' needs on the forefront.

HTML 5, Flash or Javascript

There are so many different options available for designing application interfaces. Adobe Flash does not work on Apple products such as the iPhone or iPad and HTML 5 does not work on older web browsers. At BOALT, we use best-of-breed technologies to ensure that your application will be cross compatible with all devices.

Designing Interfaces for Web Applications

The web is quickly evolving and almost all applications are moving online if they haven't already. The challenge that businesses don't always understand is that their customers expect the same user experience online as they do offline. Building an effective web application requires a well-thought-out interface, which we've done for some of the most high-profile and demanding clients in the world.

The main objective is building a lightweight elegant application interface that loads quickly. There are many factors at play in designing a successful application interface, such as utilizing cross-browser compatible javascript libraries that can balance the load between the browser, web server and database. Lastly, it's important to realize that the web is undergoing a major shift and your application interface must support new web browsers, mobile devices and be backwards compatible to accommodate older web browsers.
