I definitely agree with what you’ve said here – and try to do it as much as I can (and explain this to clients). I see social media as no different from any other venue for communication in that you should make an effort to help people regardless of their present “value” to you. It’s also critical to remember to be engaging and provide something of interest. Otherwise why will people continue to follow?

Beyond thinking “what’s in it for me?” it’s imperative that you understand there needs to be something in it for others. And that there’s not always a direct purpose or agenda to every interaction. Is there in “real life”? (How sickening it would be if that was the case…)
